Hello! Thank you for purchasing a DIY Spring themed tulle "tutu" wreath kit.
This is a fun and easy activity, perfect for beginners, no experience is needed.
In about an hour you will have your very own Spring themed wreath.
If you purchased a glitter wreath kit please note you'll want to wear something that you don't mind getting glitter on and the work area. Glitter tulle is gorgeous but leaves a glittery mess on you and your space.
If you own a hot glue gun you may use that to adhere the decor if you choose to otherwise I've included glue dots in your kits. Note- children should be supervised by an adult if using a hot glue gun. The glue gets very hot and may burn you. A low temp one is recommended as well as protective finger tip guards (found at Dollar Tree & craft stores). Glue dots are found in craft stores, and will stick to your fingers so be careful removing them, but they are safe for all to use.
Now that you're ready to make it following are the step by step instructions.
Be sure to also check out my video.
Take out all the items from the wreath kit. You will find a round wreath form (I've covered it with cotton fabric to protect the form from breaking if it gets dropped and to help the tulle material stay put), pieces of tulle (these have been measured and cut to speed up the process for you since it's the not fun part), and a small plastic zip bag. If you have the ladybug or the bumblebee kit you will also have a felt face. The plastic zip bag has some ribbon, glue dots, antennae or bunny ears, assorted decor, pieces for the face (eyes, nose or cheeks). You may use all, some or none of them. The choice is yours. Glue dots are included. The tulle is bundled together.
Tulle is a soft sheer material that sticks to itself. You have been provided with extra tulle as well but you need to separate the pieces. Otherwise you may end up short because you didn't realize several pieces were stuck together.
Let's begin! Sit in a chair. I prefer to hold the wreath form between my knees making it easier to tie on the tulle. Take one piece of tulle at a time and tie it onto the wreath form. I tie it on twice. If you have the ladybug or bumble bee wreath kit you’ll tie on 4 pieces of the red or yellow then 1 or 2 pieces of the black tulle. Continue tying on the tulle until the wreath form is covered.
You don't want to tie the tulle on too tight or too loose. You want the tulle to stay in one direction and be able to push it over if needed. Continue tying on the tulle until the wreath form is covered. Note- be sure to check after 10 pieces or so have been tied that the inside of the wreath (circle) doesn't show the white fabric. You want to see just the tulle color. You'll notice that the outer part of the circle/wreath where you tied the tulle has some gaps. That's normal and you will not notice that when it's complete. Also, you want the tulle in the inner circle to be touching, slightly overlapping but not all bunched over each other. Tying tulle should take 30 minutes.
Fluff the tulle, make sure all the pieces are straight. You may notice that some ends of the tulle are longer than others. This is when you take a pair of scissors and give your wreath a haircut.
Now for the faces (ladybug or bumblebee). For the bumble bee face take the white foam circles and attach the black circles to each to create the eyes. Carefully remove the glue dot from the backing and press it on the item. Some items may need more than 1 glue dot. Then attach the eyes to the yellow felt. You may choose to attach the third round black felt piece for the nose. You may choose to use the pipe cleaner for the mouth or a black sharpie marker (not included) to draw the smile.
For the ladybug face you may leave as is or you may choose to attach the google eyes (two kinds have been included to choose from) to the black felt. There are 2 round red felt pieces that you may add as cheeks placed on the sides of the black felt piece (face) using the glue dots.
If you have the ladybug or bumble bee you will be attaching the face onto your wreath. You may choose on top or under the wreath. Use glue dots to adhere or if you have a low temp glue gun use that. It’s recommended that children use the glue dots. Those who haven’t used a glue gun can use protective finger tip guards (sold at Dollar Tree)
Once the face is attached to the wreath, attach the black felt antennae by tucking them under the tied tulle or by adding a glue dot or wrapping the pipe cleaner around the wreath form. Adjust the antennae as you’d like. The example of the ladybug I made has it facing down but you may choose to have in go in another direction.
For the backside bunny wreath attach the pompom tail (on bottom) and the bunny ears on the top of the wreath.
Now for the hanger, you may choose to use one of the ribbons that I've provided. You may cut it to make it smaller or keep the length as is. Just tie on the ribbon to your wreath. You may choose to make a bow with the other ribbon. Feel free to use all, some or none of the decorative items that I've provided.
Have fun! Be creative!
