Couponing Rules

Updated: May 12, 2020

Some stores will allow you to combine their store coupon with a manufacturer’s coupon on the same item. It is always best to get a copy of their coupon policy.

What’s the difference between the two coupons? Some stores will have their name and/or logo printed on their coupon. Manufacturer’s coupons usually have “remit to” information.

You can’t use two of the same coupons on one item. An example of this is a peelie or hangtag on the product. These can’t be used with a manufacturer’s coupon because they are all manufacturer’s coupons. Stores will only allow one, so pick the one with the highest amount of savings.

Printable internet coupons have two barcodes. The first one gets scanned at the register. The second one is a Veri—Fi seal with an ID# for that coupon. Internet printable coupons are valid if printed in black+ white or colored ink but its less expensive to print in black + white.

You can combine a coupon that says $1 off of two items with a Buy One Get One sale at most stores. Be sure to use coupons attached to products (peelies) and hangtags. If the cashier doesn’t notice it let her know.

Note that some coupons say “Do not double” so keep that in mind when matching them to a sale. Be sure to read coupons because sometimes no size is indicated and you can use them on trial/travel sizes. You need to have as many items as you have manufacturer’s coupons. For example coupons that say “$1 off of two or more items” is considered two coupons.
